Jeff Kerkove takes on the CTR

The Colorado Trail Race is a 470 mile self supported endurance test against the elements. Jeff K. put in an epic effort but in the end... the elements won the battle.

While my race was hardly a success (DNF)....it really was.  Colorado monsoon season was in full effect leaving racers wet and hiding from lightning after 10 hours of racing.  I had a strong ride covering roughly 250 miles in 3 days and only sleeping a total of just over 4 hours.

I was riding in 1st and 2nd place after about the 12 hour mark....and was set to finish in one of these places, but the wet weather combined with a lot of hike-a-bike had me trying to compensate with nasty heel blisters.  The pain was so bad in the later part of my race I cut the heels out of my Northwave shoes.

After 3+ days of racing, I dropped from the event unable to walk.  For those not aware of this 470 mile route, there is a lot of hike-a-bike.  The remote nature of the coming days would not have been a good pace for me not being able to walk.
