KERKOVE COMMITS TO COLORADO TRAIL RACE

Topeak Ergon racer Jeff Kerkove takes on this 470 mile self supported extreme endurance event.

On August 2nd, 2010 an estimated 50+ riders will embark on one of the hardest multi-day mountain bike races in the World.  With roughly 470 miles to cover and over 60,000 ft of climbing, this event takes racers from Denver, CO to Durango, CO through some of the most rugged and remote terrain that Colorado has to offer.  With no entry fee, no prizes, and no support, riders are required to complete the course totally self-supported re-supplying only in a few pass through towns like Leadville, Buena Vista, and Silverton.

“My entire season has revolved around training for this event.  Ever since November of 2009, I have been training specifically for this event and testing equipment.  This event will be the hardest thing I have ever done on a mountain bike.  It will be a true test of mind, body, and equipment.”…Kerkove stated in the comfort of his home leading up to the event.

The Colorado Trail Race is a non-stop race.  Starting on August 2nd, it is every man and women for themselves.  Riders are expected to take 4-9 days to complete the course.  “My goal is to make it to Durango in between 4 and 5 days (course record is 4 days 3 hrs).  That is a solid pace, but weather and luck will play a huge role”….Kerkove said when asked about his race plan.

Riders will wear SPOT tracking devices.  Friends, fans, and sponsors are encouraged to follow the race in real-time at www.trackleader.com/ctr beginning at 6:30 AM on August 2, 2010.
