Plymouth: The first win of the season for the Ergon 24h Racing Team
The team celebrates its first win of the season in England.
The first win for the newly formed Ergon 24h Team was celebrated this past weekend in at Newnham Park, Plymouth, England where they raced Bontrager Twentyfour12.
As one of the largest 24 hour races in the UK, bontrager Twentyfour12 attacts around 1,500 participants to the former World Cup venue Newnham Park in Plymouth. Included in these numbers were Kim Tofaute (GER), Benjamin Brochhagen (GER) and Kim Totaute (GBR). The final member of the team was Sally Bigham (GBR) who had an otherwise race-free weekend.
Because of the long journey to the race, the potential for rain and the races over the next few weeks, the team decided to race 12 hours, starting at midday. With Trevor having ridden solo to a podium in the 24 hr race the previous year, and Kim and Benny’s recent 2nd place at the 24hrs of Munich the team were optimistic. Following the start loop, the team was already in 7th position of all 12 hour 4 man teams.
After each rider had ridden a lap, a sign of the success to come was already plain to see. There was already more than a 20min gap to second place. It was a gap which continued to grow as rain set in for the evening and conditions deteriorated.
By the end of 18 laps and shortly after midnight, Kim rode over the line as the first of the 12hr mixed teams to come home. The result? The team were over 60minuites ahead of the second placed Team Torq Development and were on the top of the podium.
On the 7/8th of August Kim and Benny are set to ride the final highlight of their season. The World Championship in Germany. Kim and Benny will be looking to better their second place from last year, while Trevor will take on the race solo.
