TransAlp 2009 Stage 7: Kaltern to Andalo
The road to Lake Garda – 9th place for Alban and Dave
“Today, I just couldn’t get my legs to play along” US Legend Dave Wiens explained, “the last few stages, I have felt them get better each day, but today, well I think the strain of the last few days finally has caught up, and that tiny but important final 5% of performance simply wasn’t there” he continued visibly frustrated after the 74.5km long stage, which saw them taking in an massive 3,007 meters of climbing.
The two Topeak Ergon athletes nevertheless achieved a respectable 9th place riding from Kaltern to Andalo, in the Trentino region of Italy. The sharp rocks under-tyre, also played a role in the day’s outcome, cutting open the rear tyre of Dave’s bike and costing them two places.
Tomorrow is a new day however, and the final stage to Riva del Garda is on the cards. Whatever happens, it has been a great experience.
